Description:

Encompassing more than 16,000 acres, South Mountain Park and Preserve is one of the largest municipal parks in the nation, holding over 51 miles of trails suitable for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. Its environmental education center showcases eye-catching exhibits that explore the diversity of the Sonoran Desert ecosystem, and also provides helpful maps and brochures for those setting off on a hike. The sprawling park sits a few miles due south of Phoenix, running more than 10 miles east to west.
