Created in the 1930s by Boyce Luther Gulley, after he left his family due to contracting tuberculosis, Mystery Castle was his gift to the young daughter he left behind. Created out of a bizarre mixture of building materials, ranging from native stone adobe to auto parts and other collected items, the castle is an 18-room complex that merges design, nature and art. Open for tours, the residence sits beside the northern border of South Mountain Park.
