Arizona Economy

The primary crops grown in Arizona are cotton, lettuce, cauliflowers, broccoli, and sorghum. The most economically valuable farm based commodities are cattle, calves, and dairy goods. Arizona has a diverse and robust manufacturing sector with with electronics, printing, publishing, processed foods, and aerospace and transportation. Arizona is known for its technology research and development, communications, and internet companies. The service industries, construction, and tourism are also on the rise as the population base in Arizona has expanded causing an increased need in these areas. also contributing to the economy are the military facilities of Fort Huachuca, Luke AFB, Davis-Monthan air force bases, and the Yuma Proving Grounds.

Copper leads the way in the minerals that mined and processed in Arizona, along with molybdenum, sand, gravel, and cement.

Arizona is also a provider of lumber in Ponderosa pine, firs, and other long grain lumber which are milled and used in the construction industries. In addition to the raw products they provide, Arizona's National and state forests attract millions of tourists yearly.

Tourism is also a large contributor to the economy in the form of visitor centers in the North on the Grand Canyon, the Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, various meteor craters, ancient Native American ruins, and the Navajo and Hopi reservations that cover nearly all of the state's northeast quadrant. Spanish colonial ruins, leisure spots, and golf courses draw large numbers of tourist to Southeastern Arizona every year.
